Research Center

Cities worldwide face escalating water challenges: groundwater depletion, pollution, flooding, infrastructure losses, and limited financial sustainability of utilities. These pressures threaten both environmental stability and community well-being.

MISSION:

To transform urban water management through interdisciplinary research, evidence-based public policy, and best practices that advance Hydroadaptive Cities in harmony with the water cycle.

VISION:

A world where water is neither a problem of scarcity nor excess, but a resource managed sustainably for present and future well-being.

General Objective

Hydroadaptive Cities Center (HAC)

Advancing Urban Water Resilience through Research and Community Engagement

The HAC was created as a dynamic platform for reflection and problem-solving grounded in community engagement. It promotes sustainable water solutions through collaboration with communities, authorities, and productive sectors.

Aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6), the Center works to strengthen public policy, empower communities, and build local capacity for equitable and sustainable water governance.

Areas and Lines of Research

Areas and Lines of Research

The research at the Center aims to cover three primary premises:

1. Urban Water Management

Focused on sustainable water management in rapidly urbanizing contexts, recognizing the growing economic and environmental relevance of cities.

2. Water Governance & Social Sciences

Strengthening research in water governance, incentives, partnerships, and public awareness to improve efficiency, hydrological restoration, and technology adoption.

3. Applied Research

Advancing practical, solution-oriented research that contributes to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 6 and strengthening urban resilience.

Integrated Research Approach

The Center operates at the intersection of:

  • Urban water management
  • Social sciences and water governance
  • Applied, solution-driven research

This integrated approach aligns with the pillars of Hydroadaptive Cities and supports scalable, evidence-based solutions.
